Tri-Basin NRD Nitrogen Management Certification Classes are required for producers in the Phase II and Phase III areas of Tri-Basin NRD's Groundwater Management Area. These classes are offered every winter, starting in January. Renewal is required every 4 years.

The Water Jamboree is an educational fun day for fifth and sixth grade students in south central Nebraska and north central Kansas. Students participate in water activities relating to aquatic life, recreational uses, water quality, non-point source pollution, irrigation, historical aspects of water, plants and water, and how water quality affects wildlife. The Nebraska State Envirothon brings in the top high school teams from seven area contests for a state competition to test their knowledge about the environment. Teams compete on the regional level in seven areas of environmental studies: soil, aquatics, forestry, policy, wildlife, range, environmental policy and current issue. For the state competition an oral presentation on a topic selected by the NCF-Envirothon Committee is added to the testing stations.

Tri-Basin NRD will host an open house from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Arbor Day, the last Friday in April. Holdrege area residents are invited to stop in the Tri-Basin NRD office beginning at 9:30 a.m. to receive a free tree seedling. Come inside for refreshments and a short Arbor Day program.
Tri-Baisn NRD will also provide free tree seedlings in other communities throughout the district on Arbor Day. Watch for details on community Arbor Day celebrations in local media outlets, here on the Tri-Basin NRD website, or Tri-Basin NRD social media: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. Nebraska’s NRDs annually host a natural resources camp called Adventure Camp about the Environment (ACE). ACE is open to students who have who have completed 6th or 7th grade and want to learn more about natural resources over their summer. The areas campers will learn about: water, forestry, range, wildlife, and soils. Campers will experience hands-on activities with a variety of presenters and explore possible careers in natural resources. ACE is hosted annually in June at Kamp Kaleo near Burwell, Nebraska. Stop in to visit with Nebraska’s Natural Resources Districts during Husker Harvest Days in the Natural Resources Hub (39E). Nebraska’s NRDs are stationed with various organizations that offer conservation assistance, cost-share opportunities and producer programs. Attendees can visit with the Nebraska Forest Service, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), USDA Farm Service Agency, Nebraska Department of Natural Resources, the Platte River Recovery Implementation Program, the Rainwater Basin Joint Venture and Central Platte NRD’s Native Prairie and Pollination Awareness Program.
The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy Water Well Standards Program will also be on site to provide free water testing and screen for nitrates in minutes. Private well owners should bring a cup-size sample of water in a clean container.
In addition, the Natural Resources Districts will announce four individuals to induct into the NRD Hall of Fame during a press conference at 2 p.m. Wednesday on the Hospitality Tent Stage (SE Quadrant, #33). These Hall of Fame inductees have made significant contributions to protect our state’s natural resources through the NRDs. Hall of Fame categories include:
- Natural Resources District Board Member
- Natural Resources District Employee
- Natural Resources District Supporter
During the three-day event, Husker Harvest attendees also will receive a free Colorado Blue Spruce tree seedling from the NRD Conservation Tree Program. All 23 Nebraska NRDs administer tree planting programs to provide trees and shrubs for local landowners. Each district varies, but possible services include: planting, weed barrier installation or weed control, and drip irrigation. Free prairie grass seed will also be available as part of the Native Prairie and Pollinator Awareness Project.

Eighth grade students in Tri-Basin NRD are invited to Sacramento-Wilcox Wildlife Management Area in September for Rainwater Basin Conservation Day. Students attending the conservation day participate in interdisciplinary activities with topics that include: aquatic life, surveying, water management, water quality, soils, and identifying native plants and trees. Students are also provided lunch at the end of the program. This event is coordinated by Tri-Basin NRD and is partially funded by the Rainwater Basin Joint Venture.
