Tri-Basin NRD Arbor Day Celebration

Holdrege, Nebr. - Tri-Basin Natural Resources District (NRD) hosted Coffee and Convos in conjunction with the Holdrege Municipal Tree Board and Holdrege Ambassadors on Arbor Day. Mayor Jim Liffrig gave a proclamation declaring Arbor Day in Holdrege, Holdrege Tree Board Members presented Memorial Tree donors with a certificate and Sasha Hahn, Tri-Basin NRD Education Coordinator, presented an interactive “Tree Cookie” game with prizes.

Tri-Basin gave away over 1000 free tree and shrub seedlings to the public at  Axtell, Holdrege, Elwood, Bertrand, Loomis, and Minden (in cooperation with the City of Minden Tree Board).Arbor Day is Nebraska’s own holiday, a holiday that asks citizens to “pay it forward” and plant a tree or shrub for the benefit of future generations.

Part of the mission of Tri-Basin Natural Resources District is to promote tree planting as a good conservation practice, with benefits for people, soils and wildlife. Tri-Basin NRD plants thousands of trees every spring for rural landowners who need windbreaks, shelter belts, and wildlife habitat. There is still an opportunity to plant a tree this spring. Come to the Tri-Basin NRD annual tree sale on Friday, May 16th from 9 a.m. to noon at the Tri-Basin NRD office, 1723 Burlington Street. For more information, contact the Tri-Basin NRD office at 1-877-995-6688 or 308-995-6688.
